As the summer approaches with its scorching heat, everybody starts looking for a quick getaway. With the schools and colleges closed, mercury rising to unparalleled heights in India, summers are an ideal time for a getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life. From the mighty Himalayas, to the scenic beauty of Western Ghats to the picturesque beauty of the north eastern region, India has a lot to offer. If you are still wondering where to go, check out our list of the top 5 destinations for a quick getaway in India:

Rishikesh: This quaint little town is known for its dedication to the gods and for having the river Ganga flow through its heart. This town in the Dehradhun district of Uttarakhand is known for its many temples, ashrams and even a few grand hotels. It is widely acclaimed as a major pilgrimage spot for devotees. Rishikesh is very well known for having the highest bungee jumping point in the country at 83 meters and river rafting through the rapids of the River Ganga.

Mahabhaleshwar: Mahabhaleshwar is often associated by most Indians with strawberries. But in the summer season, it is also known for being one of the few destinations that are very capable of giving us a cool breeze at all times. Set in Satara district of Maharashtra, the temperature Mahabhaleshwar can go down to around 21 degree Celsius in the evenings. This is because it is situated at a high altitude of 1372 meters above sea level. Mahabhaleshwar is well known for its various sightseeing ‘points’, the most famous being Sunset Point.

Mount Abu: Mount Abu in Rajasthan, is also said to be the only hill station of the Desert state. It is known for its chilled nights and is a very popular spot for tourists to visit in the heat of the summer. Abu is known for its huge Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary which is a famous attraction for visitors. It is also among the most religious places for a few sections of Hindus and Muslims. Average minimum temperature in Mt. Abu between April and June is 23 degree Celsius.

Sikkim: The North- Eastern states of India are often known as a haven of myths and wonders for travellers from foreign lands. Sikkim is one such Himalayan city. Known for its cold temperature throughout the year, Sikkim is a major holiday hub for tourists as well as locals too. Sikkim has an overall average temperature of 20 degrees Celsius on summer days.

Kashmir: Any holiday list on India is incomplete without a mention of the northernmost state of our country. Kashmir is a site to visit at least once in your lifetime, preferably in summer when the chilly breeze can be as the temperature barely exceeds 24 degrees even in May. The snow- capped mountains which we have seen all our lives in books and pictures are so much more beautiful when we get to see them up close.

India is a one such country which will never disappoint your passion of exploring new places. So what are you waiting for, pack your bags and plan your much awaited getaway.
